What is

pseudoarthrosis?

pseudoarthrosis?

Pseudoarthrosis occurs when the bones are not repaired correctly after a bone fracture or trauma.

It is usually detected when the patient does not recover normal mobility after a surgery once the estimated healing time has elapsed.

Despite its name, pseudoarthrosis has no relation to osteoarthritis, which is a different disease.

Atrophic pseudoarthorsis is a bone fracture that does not consolidate, that is, it is not able to be restored.

Its treatment requires grafts that facilitate bone repair.

El tratamiento de la pseudoartrosis es quirúrgico y debe adaptarse a las particularidades de cada paciente, especialmente en aquellos casos en los que debe reemplazarse el material quirúrgico de una intervención anterior.

En ITRT tenemos experiencia en el tratamiento de la pseudoartrosis conbioinjertos constituidos por células madre reparadoras de tejidos junto con biomaterial calcio y plasma rico en plaquetas (PRP) en pacientes con historias clínicas de distinta complejidad y afectando diferentes huesos del cuerpo.

El tratamiento ha demostrado promover la regeneración ósea y la curación en un 90 % de los pacientes tratados, incluso en pacientes que se habían sometido a 14 intervenciones previas a la aplicación de nuestro tratamiento.

 

Hasta el momento, tanto el proceso de obtención de medula ósea como la inoculación celular, tras el proceso de expansión han demostrado que son metodologías seguras y sin efectos adversos.

Stem Cell Osteoarthritis Treatment

  • 01. Assessment

    The medical team assesses the patient and his medical history in order to offer the best solution in each case.

  • 02. Authorisation request to health authorities

    The Spanish Medicine Agency (AEMPS) authorises and controls each treatment.

  • 03. Bone marrow harvesting or adipose tissue obtaining

    Stem cells are obtained by bone marrow harvesting, specifically from the posterior area of the iliac crest bone. It can also be obtained by adipose tissue liposuction.

    Extraction is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require hospitalisation.

    It is performed by local anaesthesia and sedation, and lasts approximately 20-30 minutes.

  • 04. Isolation, culture and expansion of expanded mesenchymal stem cells in the accredited laboratory

    The aspirated sample is sent to the laboratory responsible for selecting adult stem cells, culturing and expanding them.

    For each patient, a dose is prepared according to the indication, and the maximum viability of the cells is guaranteed.

  • 05. Application of expanded mesenchymal stem cells

    Stem cells received from the laboratory are injected into the affected area.

    The application procedure is performed with or without sedation and does not require hospitalisation.

  • 06. Follow-up

    The medical team closely monitors each case to control its evolution.
