What is
chronic low back pain?
Low back pain arises in the lower region of the back and affects up to 75% of the population at some point in their life. In approximately 5-10% of cases the pain chronifies, causing chronic low back pain.
One of the most common causes of chronic low back pain is degeneration of the intervertebral disc or degenerative lumbar discopathy.
Lumbar discopathy
Lumbar discopathy
Lumbar discopathy or intervertebral disc degeneration is a common disease associated with aging that causes back pain, radiculopathy and myelopathy.
In some cases, lumbar discopathy causes an inability of mobility, which affects the quality of life and work capacity of patients due to pain.
Lumbar Discopathy Treatment with expanded mesenchymal stem cells
Lumbar Discopathy Treatment with expanded mesenchymal stem cells
Physiotherapy, exercise, pharmacological treatments and infiltrations are generally the first treatment choice for lumbar discopathy. When these fail, different surgeries can be performed.
Treatment with expanded mesenchymal stem cells offers an alternative therapy to the usual treatments, with the advantage of being a non-invasive, simple and conservative intervention, that is, it preserves the functioning of the spine and does not contraindicate any subsequent surgical treatment.
Our treatment has been shown to significantly improve low back pain and disability, as well as to promote disc regeneration in patients with degenerative lumbar discopathy.
Up to now, the processes of bone marrow harvesting and cell inoculation, after the expansion process, have shown that they are safe methodologies, without evidence of adverse effects.

Stem Cell Osteoarthritis Treatment
01. Assessment
The medical team assesses the patient and his medical history in order to offer the best solution in each case.
02. Authorisation request to health authorities
The Spanish Medicine Agency (AEMPS) authorises and controls each treatment.
03. Bone marrow harvesting or adipose tissue obtaining
Stem cells are obtained by bone marrow harvesting, specifically from the posterior area of the iliac crest bone. It can also be obtained by adipose tissue liposuction.
Extraction is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require hospitalisation.
It is performed by local anaesthesia and sedation, and lasts approximately 20-30 minutes.
04. Isolation, culture and expansion of expanded mesenchymal stem cells in the accredited laboratory
The aspirated sample is sent to the laboratory responsible for selecting adult stem cells, culturing and expanding them.
For each patient, a dose is prepared according to the indication, and the maximum viability of the cells is guaranteed.
05. Application of expanded mesenchymal stem cells
Stem cells received from the laboratory are injected into the affected area.
The application procedure is performed with or without sedation and does not require hospitalisation.
06. Follow-up
The medical team closely monitors each case to control its evolution.
